Las Vegas’ world-famous gambling and mega-club facade may cause Vegas hostel guests to think a weekend in the city of sin is going to be expensive, but there are plenty of inexpensive things to do on and off the Las Vegas Strip. Here are three off-the-Strip destinations Las Vegas hostel guests can enjoy.
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
There are over a thousand climbing routes at Red Rock Canyon that have attracted climbers from all over the world. If you are not a climber, there are plenty of hiking trails, a drivable 13-mile scenic loop, as well as a geological and wildlife information center for visitors. Red Rock is located just 17 miles away from the Strip, so you don’t have to worry about wasting time on travel. Also, shuttles are available for transportation.
Goldstrike Hot Springs
For a true adventure, hike to the hidden Goldstrike Hot Springs. Some may find the hike to be a little strenuous, but the payoff is well worth it. The secluded crystal clear hot springs are surrounded by rock on all sides, creating an environment that is unlike anything else in Las Vegas. The trail closes down in the hot summer months, so make sure to check beforehand. Trams travel to and from the trailhead leading to the springs.
First Friday
Las Vegas’ monthly art walk, First Friday, takes places in the Las Vegas Downtown Arts District. Galleries like the Arts Factory or Blackbird Studios can be found throughout the First Friday footprint along with various art, jewelry and food vendors. Each month is focused on a different, interactive theme for participants to experience.
